Welcome to Nursing, Wellness, and Health Services!

What does a School Nurse do?

School nursing is a specialized area of professional practice.  In California, school nurses are required to be registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree in nursing and obtain a Professional School Nursing Services Credential through a California college or university with an accredited school nurse program.  Some even go further and obtain a National Board Certification in School Nursing.

School nurses work to promote and protect student health, facilitate optimal development, and advance academic success.

Grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, school nurses are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential.

Our Vision

Every child and adolescent in TUESD will be healthy and safe while achieving academic success.

Our Mission

We will enrich, educate, and enlighten TUESD students through providing accessible health care, promoting prevention, and partnering with parents and staff to enable students to perform at their personal best.

Our Values

– Parents are primarily responsible for the health of their children; school nurses and health assistants work in partnership with parents in providing health services to their children while in school.
– Every school-aged child is entitled to educational opportunities that will allow him/her

to reach full potential as an individual and prepare him/her for responsibility as a healthy citizen.
– Every child is entitled to a level of health that permits optimum use of educational opportunities.
