TUESD Governing Board Provisional Appointment Process

Summary of Process and Application
A vacancy on the TUESD Governing Board has occurred as of February 03, 2025. The Governing Board has determined it will fill the vacancy by Board appointment.
The Board will be accepting applications to fill this position beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2025 and ending at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 07, 2025. Please click the link for a copy of the application -TUESD Board Vacancy Application - or visit the Thermalito Union Elementary School District Office at 400 Grand Avenue, Oroville. Following a review of applications to confirm eligibility on March 10, 2025, the Board will announce the names of those who will interview with the Board to fill the vacancy on March 11, 2025.
Thereafter, at a Board meeting on March 17, 2025, the Board will meet in an open session public meeting at 4:30 p.m. at the District Office Boardroom, 400 Grand Avenue, Oroville, to review all applications and to interview the applicants. Applicants should make themselves available for this meeting. The Board’s appointment of the applicant to fill this position will take place on March 17, 2025.
Applications will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the District Office, beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The District Office will be closed to the public between Friday, February 14, 2025 and Monday, February 17, 2025. To be considered as an applicant, the application must be received in the District Office by 3:00 p.m. on March 07, 2025. Any application received after 3:00 p.m. on March 07, 2025 will not be accepted. The District will not be responsible for applications delivered late. All applications must be submitted electronically or on paper to the district office and applicants will receive a confirmation of receipt.

February 12, 2025 - Approve resolution declaring vacancy and process for provisional appointment and provisional appointment timeline
February 12, 2025 - Establish committee, consisting of less than a quorum of the Board, to review applications and ensure eligibility of candidates
February 14, 2025 - Publish public notice of governing board vacancy
February 18, 2025 - Begin accepting applications through March 07, 2025
March 07, 2025 - 3:00 p.m. deadline for applications
March 10, 2025 - Committee meets to review provisional appointment applications and ensure applicant eligibility
March 11, 2025 - Announce names of eligible candidates and notify candidates of interview process
March 17, 2025 - Special Board Meeting; hold candidate interviews in open session. Applications will be placed in the board packet. Governing Board votes to select provisional appointee. Administer oath of office.
March 18, 2025 - Publish public notice of provisional appointment until April 01, 2025

Thank you for your interest in seeking appointment to the Governing Board of the Thermalito Union Elementary School District. As you know, a vacancy has occurred which shall be filled by the Board members within 60 days. As you consider whether you would like to apply for an appointment to the Board, the following information may be of assistance.
What are the qualifications for serving on the Board?
A person must be a citizen of California, a resident of Thermalito Union Elementary School District, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and not otherwise legally disqualified from holding civil/public office.
What do I need to apply for the position?
The Board has determined that it will accept application materials which include a complete Qualification Form and Application. These materials are available online -TUESD Board Vacancy Application - or hard copies can be obtained by visiting the TUESD District Office at 400 Grand Avenue, Oroville. Complete application materials must be received in the District Office, no later than 3:00 p.m. on March 07, 2025. Applicants must be available for interviews with the Board at a public meeting on March 17, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.
If I am selected by the Board, when do I take office and when do I run for election?
The Board anticipates making a selection on March 17, 2025. The Board anticipates the appointee will be sworn into office on March 17, 2025. The Board member will serve the remainder of the term until November 2026, at which time an election will be held for a new term.
What other information should I consider?
Serving on the school board can be a valuable and satisfying way to make a significant contribution to the community. The Board, staff, parent and student community have enjoyed a collegial relationship. As public officials, Board members do have to comply with certain restrictions not encountered in their private lives.
Upon assuming office, a Board member must file a Statement of Economic Interest which is a public document that discloses the Board member’s financial holdings and other economic interests within the boundaries of the District (excluding a personal residence). Board members must restrain from Board activities which constitute a conflict of interest or which are incompatible with their role as Board member.
