Greetings,

My name is Julian Diaz and I serve as superintendent of the Thermalito Union School District.  I am presently in my 24th year in public education.  I am a graduate of Thermalito, as well as all my siblings, and all three of my children have attended Thermalito schools at one time during their school careers.

I began my career as a classroom aide working for Migrant Education  while attending college.  After graduating, I received my first teaching position in Los Banos where I also coached wrestling at the Jr. High level.  I continued my education in administration through CSU, Sacramento where I received my administrative credential.  As my family grew, my wife and I decided to move back to Oroville - where we call home.  During my time in Oroville, I have served as an elementary school principal at Eastside Elementary, Stanford Avenue Elementary, Wyandotte Avenue Elementary, and Ishi Hills Middle School in the Oroville City Elementary School District before crossing the river to Thermalito, to my home turf, where I served as principal at Nelson Avenue Middle School.  I have been recognized as Butte County Administrator's Association Principal of the Year in 2003 and presently serve on the California State Council for Equity, Achievement and Diversity.

As I continue my career as Superintendent, I look forward to a strong partnership with both our classified and certificated staff, and know that you, as a parent or community member, will join us in our endeavors in gaining higher learning outcomes for our students.

Since September, our board has estblished our "Focus for the Future" which provides us guidance and direction in defining our mission, vision, values, and goals to reach our destination in higher learning for all.  I hope you will join us as partners as we move forward together in educating our students into their future.
